N-types are not better than S-types.

Shubham (ENTP) asked: I have observed that some of my friends who are S types retake the MBTI test again and again to get a N type.eg- one of my ISTJ friend took the test almost 5 times and got INTJ once. Now whenever he meets someone he claims to be an INTJ, although he is completely an ISTJ.

I have observed this behaviour with many of my S type friends (specially ISTPs and ISFPs who sometimes claim to be ENFPs.). I personally think that there is no reason one should change their personality type or start behaving like some other type. I think that this is a result of stereotyping of Ns being better than Ss.

Have you observed a similar behaviour anytime? What is your hypothesis on why some Ss want to be typed as Ns.

The internet, and many fandoms seem to have convinced themselves that INTJs are…for some reason…the best MBTI type ever. Introverted Intuition (Ni): Charles is a mutant who has the power of telepathy (and to some extent telekinesis), but can also recognize what is going on in the minds of others very easily without having to read their minds. Thus many times when he is asked, “so did you read my mind,” he responds, “I didn’t have to.” Charles is extremely focused towards a long term goal (to make the society accept the mutants) and all of his actions are directed towards achieving it. Towards this goal, he has a very visionary, idealistic approach. His being the most powerful brain on the planet also gives him the a fair idea of ‘what comes next’ as that kind of thought requires a calm and detailed analysis (Ni) than a quick and some-what impractical response (Ne). Introverted Sensing (Si): Cho follows through with her commitments.  When she accepts Cedric’s invitation to go to the Yule Ball together, she stays true to her word, turning down a later invitation from Harry, with whom she really wanted to go to the ball.  Additionally, she never takes the initiative to ask Harry to the ball herself (classic Si traditionalism).  Cho is loyal to everyone she knows; she doesn’t stop talking to Harry even when most of the Wizarding World regards him as “disturbed and dangerous,” and when her best friend, Marietta, sells out the defense education group that Harry leads, Cho refuses to cut ties with her.  Cho has a tendency to remember past instances of rudeness, like when Ron insults her Quidditch team (Si-Fe).  During her one Quidditch match against Harry, Cho lets him search for the Snitch while she tails him. Introverted Intuition (Ni): Ritchie always contemplates his next move instead of jumping straight into anything.  When he decided to search for the legendary Pokemon Lugia, he did extensive research on the Whirl Islands (where Lugia was rumored to be found) before even traveling to the area to look.  On arrival, he concentrated his search on the most likely areas to find Lugia.  He anticipates that his Pokeballs might get mixed up with those of other trainers, so he marks his own with stars as a precaution.  When Team Rocket tricks all Pokemon League participants into giving them their Pokeballs, Ritchie discovers their ploy with a very small sliver of information.
