The MBTI Functions for Dummies

Each of the 16 Types has:

  • a thinking function (how your logic system is derived)
  • a feeling function (how you experience emotion)
  • a sensing function (how you intake information and stimuli)
  • an intuitive function (how you make connections and judgements)

Each of these functions has two subcategories, extraverted and introverted, of which your type will have only one. Continue reading

Sophie Baker: INFJ

Magic in the Moonlight

Sophie Baker INFJ - Magic in the Moonlight MBTI

Introverted Intuition (Ni): Sophie can visualise what she wants, devise a method of getting it and go after it until she achieves it. She loves ideas and new experiences and enjoys trying to solve puzzles. She’s intuitive enough to figure people out and impress them and one of the few who can catch on to Stanley’s mode of thinking. She’s able to argue against Stanley and find flaws in his logic where other people are intimidated and clueless. Continue reading

The Alice in Wonderland Conundrum

“Alice from “Alice in Wonderland” (either the 2010 movie or the original stories)”

Alright, somebody requested Alice a looonnnng time ago, and I owe it to you to explain why I haven’t typed her yet. I’ve been skipping over her for a time while letting her stew in my mind a bit, the reason being that she happens to fall into the caricature category.

Her character traits aren’t character traits so much as archetypes.

I promise, I will get her typed, but until then, just be patient.

Algernon Moncrieff: ENFP

The Importance of Being Earnest, Oscar Wilde

Algernon Moncrief ENFP | The Importance of Being Earnest #ENFP #mbti

Ne: Algy has a big imagination which he implements into his daily life. Both he and Jack invent fictional identities, but Algy’s has a creative name, and he talks about him with dry sarcasm. His imagination makes him the perfect match for Cecily. He emotionally invests himself when listening to Cecily’s fantastical diary, and gets upset when she tells him she broke off their imaginary engagement. To be perfectly honest, it seems as though Continue reading

Youthful Reactions to Unwanted Authority

“Can you do a brief overview of how the types would react to authority as kids/teens? Pretty please? :) “

Obviously, I will take the opportunity to exaggerate this extensively.

Help! My INTJ is crying!

Bruce Wayne INTJ INFJ MBTI

Question: “I’m in a relationship with an INTJ who’s one of the least emotional people I’ve ever met (I’m an ENFP). He’s usually pretty cynical and calloused, but last night he cried like I’ve never seen anyone cry before and he won’t tell me what’s wrong. I tried to ask him but he then he locked me out of the bedroom and has refused to come out for hours. How on earth am I supposed to handle that? Someone so hard and rational crying is like the most disconcerting and painful thing I’ve ever witnessed.”

Answer: First of all, I’m really sorry you had to witness that. Everyone always criticises INTJs for seeming emotionless, but as soon as they get emotional…people just start to get uncomfortable. Continue reading

Arvid – Swing Kids: INTJ

Swing Kids

Arvid Swing Kids INTJ MBTI

Ni: Arvid has a natural affinity for predicting how the future will play out as a result of current events. He has a huge picture view of the world that allows him to recognise subtle patterns in what is happening around him (such as Nazi control). When other people fail to recognise the same patterns that he does, he grows increasingly disillusioned, and eventually lashes out in anger. He can be a bit arrogant at times, which gets on Thomas’s nerves, causing conflict between them. When he realises that other people lack the visions Continue reading

Rose MacClare: ESFP

Downton Abbey

Rose McClare ESFP | Downton Abbey MBTI

Se: Rose loves dancing and partying and doesn’t enjoy the slowness of Downton. She wants to live in the moment, doesn’t really plan ahead but doesn’t have a problem with surprises. She is highly stimulated by her surroundings, particularly when the setting is lively and there’s music playing. Rose loves spontaneity and beauty and enjoys a good chance to Continue reading

ISTJ Stereotypes in “The Imitation Game”

ISTJ Stereotypes in

ISTJs are frequently stereotyped as whining, OCD, rule-obsessed intellectuals with no social skills. Either that, or they’re portrayed as evil, emotionless cyborgs with no sense of humour. As someone with a close ISTJ friend, I understand exactly how terrible those stereotypes can be on a person. Unfortunately, such stereotypes are ever present in the media, and have found their way needlessly into the recent film, The Imitation Game. Continue reading

Edgar Allan Poe: INTP

Edgar Allan Poe INTP MBTI

Ti: Edgar Allan Poe was meticulous and methodical in his writing. He had a specific method for everything, and wrote using many a long word (specificity was of utmost importance). Organisation wasn’t his strong suit, but losing jobs was. He was pro at maths while in school (to the point of being known for it), but due to disillusionment and frequency of missed classes, was expelled from West Point. Continue reading
