Extroverted Feeling (Fe): C-3PO is a protocol droid, programmed for politeness and manners.  He is able to make a difference mainly by persuasion, convincing Owen Lars to buy him and misdirecting Imperial troops who are searching for his masters.  C-3PO is exceedingly temperamental; he bickers constantly with R2-D2, and he freely expresses his fear in dangerous situations.  C-3PO can fit into the culture of any society in which he happens to find himself, even if he has to figure out the language and customs on the fly (Ne). Extroverted Feeling (Fe): As the Minister of Magic, Fudge is sensitive to public opinion above all else. He makes every decision with regard to how the magical community will view him for it, and is willing to throw everything else – facts, laws, rational predictions, sound objectives, etc. – out the window just for the sake of keeping everybody happy. He is even willing to send an innocent person (Hagrid) to prison just so the wizarding world can see him doing something, anything, to respond to a crisis. A telling illustration of Fudge’s reliance on public opinion is how he treats Harry as time goes on. When the wizarding world regards Harry as a hero, Fudge refrains from punishing him for any lawbreaking, and dotes on him in an avuncular way. However, when Harry falls into disrepute, Fudge is eager to see him punished, and to personally get involved in punishing him, even when he has done nothing wrong. Fudge wears his heart on his sleeve, and excuses Harry from punishment on one occasion with the excuse that Harry just let his emotions get the better of him. Continue reading →

Dominant Ti: Unlike her Te-using friend Eustace, Jill operates based on an interior sense of logic that is not necessarily based on empirical evidence. As a result, she is the only Friend of Narnia who is willing to believe that other worlds exist before she enters one. Jill generally prefers taking a rational approach to life, and she can be disdainful of people who lose control of themselves. When she is faced with a difficult situation, one of her first reactions is usually to focus on remaining cool and calm. She sometimes misses the larger significance of events, which annoys Eustace (especially on the occasions when she interrupts his reasoning process to emphasize details that he considers unimportant). Jill is not a controlling person. She can, however, be very critical of other people when they are behaving irrationally or (in her mind) wasting time. As a result, she and Eustace often argue. She does not verbalize all of her thoughts and is irritated when Eustace ruins her declaration of loyalty to Tirian by pointing out that they cannot return home anyway. Continue reading →

Dominant Fi: Bod dislikes Miss Lupescu almost immediately and says so. He is disturbed by Jack’s business card in the shop. When he takes Scarlett to see the barrow, he doesn’t try to make her feel better by telling her they wouldn’t get hurt. He goes to school, despite it being against the rules to leave the graveyard. At school, Bod generally keeps to himself, and only gets involved when he notices that the other kids aren’t standing up to Nick and Mo. He decides to escape from the ghouls because he wants to keep his identity, and knows his original name doesn’t matter. (“I’m Nobody Owens. Introverted Intuition (Ni): Drew has an obsession with Pokemon contests that consumes his whole life.  Even after a humiliating loss in his first ever contest battle, he persevered, becoming a skilled, respected, and popular Pokemon coordinator.  He focuses so much on plowing ahead that he all but forgets this humble beginning to his career.  Drew chooses each Pokemon on his team with great care, going out of his way to capture the ones that he especially likes.  When his plans are interrupted by a shipwreck that strands him on an uninhabited island, he is slow to adjust to his new reality, instead bemoaning all the training time he has lost. Introverted Intuition (Ni): Charles is a mutant who has the power of telepathy (and to some extent telekinesis), but can also recognize what is going on in the minds of others very easily without having to read their minds. Thus many times when he is asked, “so did you read my mind,” he responds, “I didn’t have to.” Charles is extremely focused towards a long term goal (to make the society accept the mutants) and all of his actions are directed towards achieving it. Towards this goal, he has a very visionary, idealistic approach. His being the most powerful brain on the planet also gives him the a fair idea of ‘what comes next’ as that kind of thought requires a calm and detailed analysis (Ni) than a quick and some-what impractical response (Ne). Extroverted Feeling (Fe): Fleur is primarily concerned with her social image.  When eating at Hogwarts, she is worried that she will gain weight and not fit into her dress robes.  She wants a socially acceptable date for the Yule Ball; not only does she try to get Cedric to ask her to the ball, but she is highly offended when Ron asks her out.  When she gets married, she has an enormous wedding with all her friends and family in attendance.  Fleur is very attractive, and shamelessly uses her charm and good looks to get what she wants, whether a date or just a favor.  Fleur is deeply affected by her inability to rescue her sister for the second Triwizard Task (insisting that she deserves no points), and she warms up to Harry and Ron when they rescue her sister instead. Dominant Si: Eustace initially behaves in ways that do not reflect the customs of English society as a whole because he is used to the behavior of his parents, who have tried to raise him in a way that they consider modern and progressive. In reality, they have accidentally stunted Eustace’s imagination and emotional life, making him unable to enjoy socializing with normal children. When Eustace is transported to Narnia with his cousins Edmund and Lucy, at first he cannot adjust to the fact that he is in a place where his parents’ preferred way of life might hamper his own survival. He insists that a British Consulate must be located somewhere in the area and believes that things on the Dawn Treader are not being done properly. Fortunately, Eustace eventually realizes that the customs of Narnian society make more sense than those taught to him by his parents. Introverted Sensing (Si): Cho follows through with her commitments.  When she accepts Cedric’s invitation to go to the Yule Ball together, she stays true to her word, turning down a later invitation from Harry, with whom she really wanted to go to the ball.  Additionally, she never takes the initiative to ask Harry to the ball herself (classic Si traditionalism).  Cho is loyal to everyone she knows; she doesn’t stop talking to Harry even when most of the Wizarding World regards him as “disturbed and dangerous,” and when her best friend, Marietta, sells out the defense education group that Harry leads, Cho refuses to cut ties with her.  Cho has a tendency to remember past instances of rudeness, like when Ron insults her Quidditch team (Si-Fe).  During her one Quidditch match against Harry, Cho lets him search for the Snitch while she tails him. He upholds the law to a tee, always tells the truth (even when it leads to  freeing a guilty criminal), and minutely follows criminal and scientific procedures. When Steve rescues him from the POW camp, Bucky immediately notices he’s changed, saying, “I thought you were smaller.” Bucky is very physical in his friendships: he initiates hugs with Steve, puts his arm around his shoulder, and pushes him to get his attention. Introverted Intuition (Ni): Ritchie always contemplates his next move instead of jumping straight into anything.  When he decided to search for the legendary Pokemon Lugia, he did extensive research on the Whirl Islands (where Lugia was rumored to be found) before even traveling to the area to look.  On arrival, he concentrated his search on the most likely areas to find Lugia.  He anticipates that his Pokeballs might get mixed up with those of other trainers, so he marks his own with stars as a precaution.  When Team Rocket tricks all Pokemon League participants into giving them their Pokeballs, Ritchie discovers their ploy with a very small sliver of information. Introverted Thinking (Ti): Although too young to train Pokemon himself, Max is intimately familiar with the theory of Pokemon battling.  He will analyze every battle he sees, trying to figure out exactly what each trainer does right and wrong.  In the few battles in which Max does participate, he follows theory rather than tuning into the reality of the situation; he will often set up a defense single-mindedly while his opponent is mercilessly attacking.  On his journey with Ash, Brock, and May, Max would always be on the lookout for a Pokemon to use its special move or ability.  Max has a curiosity that would sometimes get him into trouble; when he saw a Bulbasaur, a Charmander, and a Squirtle for the first time, he inspected the three Pokemon with his hands, provoking them to attack him.
