Jill Pole: ISTP

Guest Post by E. J., INTJ

The Chronicles of Narnia, C.S. Lewis

Dominant Ti: Unlike her Te-using friend Eustace, Jill operates based on an interior sense of logic that is not necessarily based on empirical evidence. As a result, she is the only Friend of Narnia who is willing to believe that other worlds exist before she enters one. Jill generally prefers taking a rational approach to life, and she can be disdainful of people who lose control of themselves. When she is faced with a difficult situation, one of her first reactions is usually to focus on remaining cool and calm. She sometimes misses the larger significance of events, which annoys Eustace (especially on the occasions when she interrupts his reasoning process to emphasize details that he considers unimportant). Jill is not a controlling person. She can, however, be very critical of other people when they are behaving irrationally or (in her mind) wasting time. As a result, she and Eustace often argue. She does not verbalize all of her thoughts and is irritated when Eustace ruins her declaration of loyalty to Tirian by pointing out that they cannot return home anyway. Continue reading

Drew – Pokémon: INTJ

Guest Post by Andrew, ENTJ

Pokémon Anime Franchise

Drew INTJ| Pokemon #MBTI #INTJ

Introverted Intuition (Ni): Drew has an obsession with Pokemon contests that consumes his whole life.  Even after a humiliating loss in his first ever contest battle, he persevered, becoming a skilled, respected, and popular Pokemon coordinator.  He focuses so much on plowing ahead that he all but forgets this humble beginning to his career.  Drew chooses each Pokemon on his team with great care, going out of his way to capture the ones that he especially likes.  When his plans are interrupted by a shipwreck that strands him on an uninhabited island, he is slow to adjust to his new reality, instead bemoaning all the training time he has lost. Charles Xavier: INFJ

Guest Post by Shubham, ENTP

X-Men

Charles Xavier INFJ | X-Men #MBTI #INFJ

Introverted Intuition (Ni): Charles is a mutant who has the power of telepathy (and to some extent telekinesis), but can also recognize what is going on in the minds of others very easily without having to read their minds. Thus many times when he is asked, “so did you read my mind,” he responds, “I didn’t have to.” Charles is extremely focused towards a long term goal (to make the society accept the mutants) and all of his actions are directed towards achieving it. Towards this goal, he has a very visionary, idealistic approach. His being the most powerful brain on the planet also gives him the a fair idea of ‘what comes next’ as that kind of thought requires a calm and detailed analysis (Ni) than a quick and some-what impractical response (Ne). This gives him a bit of a mystic charm. Like Magneto, he has a very specific approach to problem solving, a fact which is often the root stressor of their disagreements. Continue reading

Fleur Delacour: ESFJ

Guest Post by Andrew, ENTJ

Harry Potter, J. K. Rowling

Fleur Delacour ESFJ | Harry Potter #MBTI #ESFJ

Extroverted Feeling (Fe): Fleur is primarily concerned with her social image.  When eating at Hogwarts, she is worried that she will gain weight and not fit into her dress robes.  She wants a socially acceptable date for the Yule Ball; not only does she try to get Cedric to ask her to the ball, but she is highly offended when Ron asks her out.  When she gets married, she has an enormous wedding with all her friends and family in attendance.  Fleur is very attractive, and shamelessly uses her charm and good looks to get what she wants, whether a date or just a favor.  Fleur is deeply affected by her inability to rescue her sister for the second Triwizard Task (insisting that she deserves no points), and she warms up to Harry and Ron when they rescue her sister instead. Eustace Clarence Scrubb: ISTJ

Guest Post by E. J., INTJ

The Chronicles of Narnia, C.S. Lewis

Eustace Scrubb ISTJ | The Chronicles of Narnia #MBTI #ISTJ

Dominant Si: Eustace initially behaves in ways that do not reflect the customs of English society as a whole because he is used to the behavior of his parents, who have tried to raise him in a way that they consider modern and progressive. In reality, they have accidentally stunted Eustace’s imagination and emotional life, making him unable to enjoy socializing with normal children. When Eustace is transported to Narnia with his cousins Edmund and Lucy, at first he cannot adjust to the fact that he is in a place where his parents’ preferred way of life might hamper his own survival. He insists that a British Consulate must be located somewhere in the area and believes that things on the Dawn Treader are not being done properly. Fortunately, Eustace eventually realizes that the customs of Narnian society make more sense than those taught to him by his parents. He changes his behavior and becomes a much more pleasant person in both Narnia and England. Continue reading

Cho Chang: ISFJ

Guest post by Andrew, ENTJ

Harry Potter, J. K. Rowling

Cho Chang ISFJ | Harry Potter #MBTI #ISFJ

Introverted Sensing (Si): Cho follows through with her commitments.  When she accepts Cedric’s invitation to go to the Yule Ball together, she stays true to her word, turning down a later invitation from Harry, with whom she really wanted to go to the ball.  Additionally, she never takes the initiative to ask Harry to the ball herself (classic Si traditionalism).  Cho is loyal to everyone she knows; she doesn’t stop talking to Harry even when most of the Wizarding World regards him as “disturbed and dangerous,” and when her best friend, Marietta, sells out the defense education group that Harry leads, Cho refuses to cut ties with her.  Cho has a tendency to remember past instances of rudeness, like when Ron insults her Quidditch team (Si-Fe).  During her one Quidditch match against Harry, Cho lets him search for the Snitch while she tails him. William Murdoch: ISTJ

Guest Post by Fanta, INTJ

Murdoch Mysteries (TV series)

William Murdock ISTJ | Murdock Mysteries #MBTI #ISTJ

Si: Detective William Murdoch is a very serious, by-the-book, conventional man who is deeply attached to his Catholic religious upbringing. He has a strong sense of duty guiding him when he has to make difficult and personal choices: he chooses justice over stopping the marriage of the woman he loves. He upholds the law to a tee, always tells the truth (even when it leads to  freeing a guilty criminal), and minutely follows criminal and scientific procedures. From very early on, Murdoch has developed a keen interest in scientific knowledge, spending so much personal time absorbing all kinds of information through this hobby that he became an expert without consciously wanting to. Bucky Barnes: ESTP

Guest Post by Kerissa, INFJ

Marvel Cinematic Universe

Bucky Barns - The Winter Soldier ESTP | Marvel #MBTI #ESTP

Se: On his last night before leaving for the war, Bucky chooses to go to a science exposition, a busy place full of lights and noises and people, and plans on going dancing afterwards. He has no visible emotional attachment to his date in this scene, he does this for the delight of doing something. When Steve rescues him from the POW camp, Bucky immediately notices he’s changed, saying, “I thought you were smaller.” Bucky is very physical in his friendships: he initiates hugs with Steve, puts his arm around his shoulder, and pushes him to get his attention. As he breaks through his brainwashing in the vault scene in Winter Soldier, his memories come back as various sensory experiences and images. Continue reading

Ariadne – Inception: INTP

Guest post by E.J., INTJ

Inception

Ariadne INTP | Inception #MBTI #INTP

Dominant Ti: Ariadne is a very logical person whose talent for puzzle-building earns her a place on Cobb’s team. Her attraction to building dream architecture draws her to join, despite her initial reluctance after seeing Cobb’s disturbed mental state. She generally does not discuss her ideas at length–when she describes the dream architecture she has planned to other people, her explanations are brief. Ariadne rarely overreacts to situations. Even when she shows initial alarm, she is ready to move on to a rational solution as soon as someone can suggest one. When their mission goes wrong, Ariadne (unlike Cobb and Eames) does not give up. Instead, she proposes a rational solution based on her mathematical knowledge of their situation. Continue reading

Ritchie – Pokemon: INFJ

Guest Post by Andrew, ENTJ

Pokemon

Ritchie INFJ| Pokemon #MBTI #INFJ

Introverted Intuition (Ni): Ritchie always contemplates his next move instead of jumping straight into anything.  When he decided to search for the legendary Pokemon Lugia, he did extensive research on the Whirl Islands (where Lugia was rumored to be found) before even traveling to the area to look.  On arrival, he concentrated his search on the most likely areas to find Lugia.  He anticipates that his Pokeballs might get mixed up with those of other trainers, so he marks his own with stars as a precaution.  When Team Rocket tricks all Pokemon League participants into giving them their Pokeballs, Ritchie discovers their ploy with a very small sliver of information. Max – Pokemon: INTP

Guest post by Andrew, ENTJ

Pokemon Anime Franchise

Max-max-masato-21219536-640-352

Introverted Thinking (Ti): Although too young to train Pokemon himself, Max is intimately familiar with the theory of Pokemon battling.  He will analyze every battle he sees, trying to figure out exactly what each trainer does right and wrong.  In the few battles in which Max does participate, he follows theory rather than tuning into the reality of the situation; he will often set up a defense single-mindedly while his opponent is mercilessly attacking.  On his journey with Ash, Brock, and May, Max would always be on the lookout for a Pokemon to use its special move or ability.  Max has a curiosity that would sometimes get him into trouble; when he saw a Bulbasaur, a Charmander, and a Squirtle for the first time, he inspected the three Pokemon with his hands, provoking them to attack him. Arthur – Inception: ISTJ

Guest Post by E. J., INTJ

Inception

Arthur ISTJ | Inception #MBTI #ISTJ

Dominant Si: Arthur prefers approaches that he considers tried-and-true. He has difficulty accepting that inception is possible because it is outside the realm of his experience–which, fortunately for Cobb, is vast. His traditional approach is one of the reasons that Eames (who calls him “that old stick-in-the-mud”) loves teasing him at every opportunity. Arthur instinctively distrusts most out-of-the-box ideas, despite his highly unusual profession, but his eye for detail helps make him among the best extraction experts in the world of corporate espionage. It is also his attention to detail that leads to some of the friction between Arthur and Eames: Arthur is frustrated by Eames’s tendency to suggest unusual strategies without fleshing out the details. Continue reading

Yoda: INFJ

Guest Post by Andrew, ENTJ

Star Wars

Yoda INFJ | Star Wars #MBTI #INFJ

Introverted Intuition (Ni): Yoda is future-focused, and encourages everyone else to be the same way.  He understands the consequences of failure in every circumstance (if Count Dooku is not apprehended, the Clone Wars will only be bloodier than they otherwise would, and his inability to kill Palpatine means that he has to go into hiding).  Yoda is very wary of the Dark Side, and teaches his pupils to banish all fear (“the path to the Dark Side”) to avoid any anger and hatred (full-fledged Dark Side emotions) down the line.  Since Anakin has already experienced a great deal of fear before the beginning of his training, Yoda is exceedingly cautious about granting him any status in the Jedi Order; he votes not to allow Anakin to be trained at all, and he seeks to mitigate any damage that Anakin could cause when Palpatine appoints him to the Jedi Council.  Yoda is patient about making up his mind, but he doesn’t necessarily need much information to do so, and he can infer a lot of facts from limited evidence; he figures out the Sith practice of the Rule of Two from a couple of skirmishes between Qui-Gon and Darth Maul.  After the sudden collapse of the Jedi Order, Yoda is content to rebuild it slowly, starting with Anakin’s children, who were born just after the Jedi were slaughtered en masse. Cedric Diggory: ISFJ

Guest post by Andrew, ENTJ

Harry Potter, J. K. Rowling

Cedric Diggory ISFJ | Harry Potter #MBTI #ISFJ

Introverted Sensing (Si): On the whole, Cedric lives a conventional life, even with the exciting things happening within it.  He is diligent in his schoolwork, and he takes his girlfriend to nice cafes when he can.  He is predictable enough in his day-to-day actions that both Harry and the false Mad-Eye Moody are able to guess his exact reactions to certain situations.  Although Cedric competes in both the inter-house Quidditch Cup and the Triwizard Tournament, he is almost indifferent to the attention showered upon him by either competition.  In fact, he is almost more concerned with making sure the competitions are conducted fairly than with securing his own victory.  Cedric can sometimes be suspicious when told something he doesn’t expect, as when Harry tells him what the first task in the Triwizard Tournament will entail (this was supposed to be a secret from all the champions).

Cedric Diggory ISFJ | Harry Potter #MBTI #ISFJ

Extroverted Feeling (Fe): Cedric is a perfect gentleman who is polite to everybody.  He sends up a distress signal so that Viktor Krum will be rescued, even though he thinks his opponent doesn’t deserve it.  Cedric plays fair, but not in a legalistic way; twice, he tries to give Harry victories in competitions that he has won according to the rules (but due to the circumstances, Harry SHOULD have won both times, in Cedric’s opinion).  When Cedric plays Quidditch or competes for the Triwizard Cup, he isn’t doing so for his own glory; instead, he’s in it for Hogwarts and for Hufflepuff House.

Cedric Diggory ISFJ | Harry Potter #MBTI #ISFJ

Introverted Thinking (Ti): Cedric is not one to stretch the truth. When his father brags about his Quidditch match (“You beat Harry Potter!”), Cedric responds by explaining why the match played out the way it did.  Cedric solves the riddle required for the second Triwizard task by searching his mind for clues rather than using external ones (he didn’t pay attention to the mermaid painting on the wall).

Cedric Diggory ISFJ | Harry Potter #MBTI #ISFJ

Extroverted Intuition (Ne): When facing a dragon in his first Triwizard task, Cedric takes a risky approach to reach his goal.  While trying to figure out what he has to do for the second task, he takes a highly unusual suggestion (taking the egg to the bath with him) when he hits a roadblock.  Once he figures out the clue, he successfully anticipates everything he is expected to do as part of the task.
