Dominant Introverted Sensing (Si): Zoe prefers to live in a way she is accustomed to, working with the Captain that she served with during the war. During the war Zoe took her orders from Malcolm Reynolds and continues to do so onboard Serenity, serving as his second-in-command. She is the only one of the crew to regularly call Captains Reynolds ‘Sir’. Even though the war has been over for six years, it is still fresh in Zoe’s mind and affects her on a regular basis, like cutting up an apple instead of biting into it because she once saw another soldier blown up by biting into an apple which had been rigged. She does not mind routine and prefers to follow methods that have worked before.

Auxiliary Extroverted Thinking (Te): Zoe is perfectly fine with taking control of situations and giving orders if Mal is not present, and is honest and straightforward in her speech. She is capable of acting logically, even in times of emotional trauma such as escaping the ship after Wash’s death. Her skilled marksmanship and fighting style may also come from this function.

Tertiary Introverted Feeling (Fi): Zoe is rarely emotional and tends to keep her feelings to herself. She has very distinct likes and dislikes, making up her mind shortly after meeting Hoban ‘Wash’ Washburne for the first time that he bothers her, though she doesn’t state why. Zoe is a principled person and fiercely loyal to both her husband and her captain.

Inferior Extroverted Intuition (Ne): Although Zoe is much more comfortable with doing things in the usual way, she is receptive to new ideas if they are proven doable. This includes things like Simon’s plan to sneak in and steal from the hospital, as well as Malcolm’s many highly unconventional plans and tactics.
