“Could you do a post about why a lot of people hate the new doctor (in relation to his MBTI type)? Also, I’ve never met an INTJ so which doctor is your favourite?”
I haven’t yet seen all the doctors yet, but so far, my favourites are (in respective order from best to worst) 12, 4, 8, 9, 5, 10, and 11.
I wouldn’t necessarily say that people hate the 12th Doctor, though I definitely know people that do. I think what we should be asking is why the change was so shocking.
With the last three regenerations, we went from INFP (9) to ENFP (10) to ENTP (11). In that sequence, the shift isn’t quite so abrupt because you’re only changing a couple functions each time.
With INFP (9) to ENFP (10), all you’re doing is shifting around the order of the same functions.
Fi-Ne-Si-Te –> Ne-Fi-Te-Si
ENFP (10) to ENTP (11), you’re changing the functions, but less severely than ENTP to INTJ.
Ne-Fi-Te-Si –> Ne-Ti-Fe-Si
Here, the most prominent function (Ne) remains the same, and 9 has that function as an auxiliary. However, when you switch from ENTP to INTJ, you’re getting a whole new set of functions. None of them stay the same at all.
Ne-Ti-Fe-Si –> Ni-Te-Fi-Se
You switch from the Ne “Anything is possible!” that you’ve had with the last three regenerations to “I’m a realist. This is possible and this is not.”
Also, you’re getting auxiliary Te –which in the twelfth Doctor’s case comes out as cold, hard bluntness. The fans have gotten used to the Ne positive-outlook and Fe love-everyone of the 11th doctor, so the switch is incomprehensible to a lot of people.
Also, we’re used to the last three Doctors not being really aware of their physical environments as much as the twelfth doctor (inferior Se vs inferior/tertiary Si). This Doctor gets overstimulated by too much sensory experience and we’re used to the previous Doctors misplacing things and not always noticing the obvious in their environments.
Also —tertiary Fi. 9 and 10 both used Fi, but as auxiliary or dominant functions, so it was much more prominent and their feelings came out accurately.
The last three doctors have always been more accommodating of people simply because they knew how to behave around them better. The 11th Doctor’s Fe made him act kindly toward Amy after Rory died even though he knew she didn’t remember it.
The 10th Doctor never really told Rose how he felt about her, but his Fi was prominent enough that he was aware of what she wanted and was able to give her that. Then when Martha came in, it was obvious to everyone else that she loved him, but he didn’t notice because his Fi made him focus more on his own problems than hers.
I think it was pretty obvious to everyone how the 9th Doctor felt about Rose. His Fi made him reluctant to talk about it, and he mainly expressed love through action rather than words.
With the tertiary Fi of the 12th Doctor, true feelings get hidden a lot better. What I’m seeing happening with the Twelfth Doctor is that his Fi feelings are coming out through his auxiliary Te.
How exactly do I mean? Instead of telling people what he feels when he’s overwhelmed (which is pretty much always) he freaks out and goes all Te-argumentative on them. Also, he expresses his care for others without words –he simply acts to protect them in the way that he thinks is best (which isn’t necessarily what they want).
At the same time, you can see that he does care about people, simply doesn’t speak their love-language. He desperately wants to be a better person, but doesn’t always know how.
As an INTJ, I think the twelfth Doctor is…
How is the 9th doctor an infp? He’s an istp.

I have noticed lately that my favorite Doctors have either been an ENFP or an INTJ (10, 12, 4, 2). I find this interesting since those types have very different thought processes. Maybe it shows that no matter what the MBTI type is, The Doctor is always The Doctor.

I love the twelfth doctor! I love his deep qoutes and his perspective of how the world works. I can relate so much as an INTJ myself.
