Zuko: ISFP

Dominant Introverted Feeling (Fi): Zuko feels everything intensely, a trait that both makes him a force for good (when he can detach his own moral code from what his father expects of him) and causes him a great deal of suffering. When he forces himself to live by his father’s value system instead of his own, Zuko is plagued by inner dissonance and depression. From a young age, he has a strong sense of ethics and is happiest when he feels aligned with his moral code. His drive to do the right thing pushes him to speak against his father’s military plans, ultimately leading to his banishment from the Fire Nation. As much as he lashes out at people (Mai, his crew, Uncle Iroh), Zuko puts them first when they are in danger. When he makes a mistake, he accepts full responsibility for his actions and does everything in his power to correct the damage he’s caused. As Fire Lord, Zuko puts his life on the line to stand up for the misunderstood people of the Fire Nation colonies. However, when gaslighting and manipulation from his family members cause him to doubt his inner compass, Zuko is wracked with anxiety about whether he’s doing the right thing (to the point of being unable to sleep). When under intense stress, Zuko has the tendency to retreat inward, keeping his struggles to himself despite Mai’s urgings for him to talk openly.

  1. Not trying to be intentionally dismissive, but I think that Zuko is an INTJ in an Ni – Fi loop.

He thinks like an Ni Te Fi Se.

It kind of annoys me when ppl just type someone based on which cognitive function stands out at the moment, not taking into account that they may be in stress reactions.

Also, the Azula/Zuko rivalry makes more sense that way. ENTJ/INTJ.

Zuko envies the fact that Azula has Te ahead of him, and Azula envied Zuko for having Fi ahead even though she didn’t fully understand its importance.

Zuko is too persistently intense almost to a foolish extent to be an ISFP. Irrational Ni dom.

An ISFP would have had more self awareness and noped the f out of that dysfunction.

They prolly would have been smart enough not to run themselves into the ground trying to prove themselves to people who didn’t care about them, that stinks of low EQ. An INTJ with a wounded pride and low self esteem is more likely to fall into this mistake.

I also suspect an ISFP would have better social awareness than to defy the generals in such a way in front of his father. And if they did, they would be fully aware of the potential ramifications.

Zuko was mostly oblivious to what a social faux pas it was until he learned from experience.

    • I find this a fair argument and will definitely consider it on my next rewatch. Although, I’d suggest that Zuko’s lack of social awareness is due to autism and his lack of personal insight is heavily influenced by his having been chronically gaslighted.
