Pokémon Anime
Dominant Introverted Feeling (Fi): Burgundy can take criticism way too personally. Her entire motivation for starting a rivalry with Cilan stems from a single honest assessment he made on her relationship with one of her Pokémon – which she found less than flattering – when she was still very young. Even as an adult, she hates seeing Cilan achieve success in his endeavours, and she sulks on the sidelines when her nemesis wins battles and tournaments. Burgundy bases her opinions almost entirely on personal impressions rather than factual evidence, such as when she states that Ash is incompatible with all of his Pokémon. Notwithstanding her childish exterior, however, Burgundy cares deeply about every one of her Pokémon. She also has a friend in Iris’ rival, Georgia, even though the two of them are prone to bickering with each other.
Auxiliary Extroverted Intuition (Ne): Burgundy has been known to break rules in order to get what she wants. This is especially true in her desire to provide official evaluations of trainer-Pokémon relationships, which she, as only a low-level Pokémon Connaisseuse, is not qualified to give. Burgundy gets excited on meeting Ash for the first time, owing to the fact that he has a Pokémon (his Pikachu) that is not usually found in her neck of the woods. Burgundy is an innovative battler who teaches her Pokémon unusual moves.
Tertiary Introverted Sensing (Si): Burgundy tries to present herself as a cultured individual. Her favourite outfit to wear is on the dressy side, and she frequently uses French phrases when she speaks (however, she also has a tendency to mispronounce her French words, ruining the effect). Burgundy is unable to let go of her grudge against Cilan, regardless of how long ago he offended her. She gloats when she knows something someone else doesn’t and doesn’t like running into anyone more informed than herself.
Inferior Extroverted Thinking (Te): Burgundy only puts her best effort into tasks and goals fueled by her most extreme feelings, such as her rivalry with Cilan. Since she notably hasn’t progressed very far as a Pokémon Connaisseuse and consistently fails to defeat Cilan, even a long-time grudge probably still provides insufficient motivation for her. Once she forms her opinions (Ash doesn’t relate well to his Pokémon), she’ll sometimes work on forcing them on others in some way (insisting that she should replace all of Ash’s Pokémon and battling Cilan for the right to do so).
Author’s Note: Burgundy is obviously a very unhealthy character. She’s in a very pronounced Fi-Si loop, with her Te sometimes making itself known through her angry outbursts and overall bossiness. It was hard deciding on a type for her because of her out-of-whack functions; I considered ISxJ because she’s just that stuck in the past, but then I remembered how she disregards any kind of logic in her decision-making, relying instead on her feelings. Therefore, she has to be an Fi-dom with an unusually strong tertiary Si.
