Death Note
Dominant Extraverted Thinking (Te): Light is an analytical person who values efficiency and order. He has a practical system for everything, from identifying whether someone’s been in his bedroom to ensuring he can still write names if he doesn’t have access to the death note. Light is generally very level-headed in stressful situations, and is really only liable to becoming anxious when things are outside his control. He is incredibly organized and runs a tight schedule in every domain, including academics, extracurriculars, and social life. As a detective, he’s good at taking charge of group plans and readily volunteers to do so (particularly when it will benefit him). Uninterested in theorizing just to theorize, Light prioritizes gaining access to actionable insights and keeping his plan moving forward.
Auxiliary Introverted Intuition (Ni): A long-term thinker with ambitious goals, Light Yagami has an idealistic vision of the world that he’s eager to make into reality. His intuitive nature makes it easy for him to quickly get a read on other people’s personalities, enabling him to stay ten steps ahead of threats. While he’s able to improvise when the situation calls for it, Light strongly prefers to go in with a plan. In nearly every situation, he has already mapped out solutions for the most likely contingencies and keeps a regular stream of deaths on schedule in case he gets caught. Light has powerful predictive abilities and an unwavering confidence in them. As Kira, he is so good at this that he’s able to temporarily detach himself from the Death Note with full confidence that it will come back to him at the right moment.
Tertiary Extraverted Sensing (Se): Rather than using logic and intuition alone to figure things out, Light also attunes himself to physical clues in his environment. Even when he’s just out running errands, Light pays attention to his environment. As a result, he’s able to narrowly avoid getting caught by Naomi Misora. At home, he sets small physical trappings to notify him of intruders and prevent anyone from meddling with the Death Note. In tight situations, Light is able to think on his feet to figure out a solution (i.e. getting Naomi Misora to reveal her name). However, he is averse to finding himself in these situations as feeling out of control causes him immense stress.
Inferior Introverted Feeling (Fi): Light is uncomfortable with closeness and lacks trusting relationships despite his ease with making friends. He doesn’t particularly care about hurting other people’s feelings, readily dismissing affection from his mother, and taking pleasure in letting Naomi Misora know that he killed her fiancé. When he does profess to care about others, it’s largely in the service of building up his own narcissistic facade. He loves the idea of seeing himself as a benevolent God who has a deep sense of ethics, but in reality, ethical principles are something that he sees as disposable tools (useful for propping himself up in some situations).
Additional Mental Health Factors: Light most likely has Narcissistic Personality Disorder and Antisocial Personality Disorder. While these disorders aren’t diagnosable under the age of 18, you can see them develop and solidify in him as he grows into adulthood after discovering the Death Note.
