Dominant Introverted Thinking (Ti): Clemont loves machines. He has a whole gym full of gadgets that he’s invented himself, and he invents all manner of technological contraptions while on the road with Ash (Ti-Ne). Clemont’s affinity with machines comes from his view of life as a system to be analyzed and exploited if necessary, and Clemont applies this worldview to all aspects of his life, not just to his tinkering. For instance, he deconstructs Ash’s battle style in order to find weaknesses as part of his preparation to battle his friend. Also, he builds a robot, Clembot, to run his gym for him, and he programs Clembot with a “wish list” of qualities and qualifications that he would like to see in potential challengers.
Auxiliary Extroverted Intuition (Ne): Clemont often says, “The future is now, thanks to science!” Indeed, the promise of progress is a powerful draw for Clemont. It motivates him to invent all-new machines rather than just fix or improve existing ones. Clemont usually comes up with his ideas for new inventions on the fly, and in response to some immediate problem that he, his family, and/or his friends are facing. Clemont has all the necessary creativity and sense of innovation to find technological solutions to just about everything, but his inattention to detail leads to his inventions literally blowing up in his face.
Tertiary Introverted Sensing (Si): Even though Clemont can design and build machines to solve most problems, he is much less apt at thinking of catchy names for his inventions. Typically, he just names one of his creations based on a bland description of what the machine does. Clemont is not without a sense of duty, whether to his gym (taking it back after Clembot kicks him out), to his family (especially Bonnie, whom he teaches about the dos and don’ts of living in polite society), and eventually, to Ash and Serena.
Inferior Extroverted Feeling (Fe): Clemont applies a specific morality to his work: in his view, new creations which do not contribute to the betterment of society do not deserve to be called inventions. Clemont is a logical person, but that does not preclude compassion for anyone. However, he is always embarrassed when Bonnie tries to set him up with a girl they meet on their journey, and he deals with embarrassment by walking away, from the situation rather than talking it out.
