Update and Thank You

I’d like to extend a very hearty thank you to everybody who has contributed to help this blog stay afloat in the last several months. And that includes those who have written guest posts as well as all those who have contributed respectfully to the site discussion. It’s not infrequent that I receive very rude comments from strangers who aren’t regular followers, and it’s refreshing to see both the healthy discussion that all of you have created, in addition to all your kind concern about how I’m doing.

Speaking of which, it’s not likely that I will be getting better any time soon (potentially never at this point). I don’t have a solid diagnosis for what’s wrong with me (I’m being tested for things still), but basically I’m dealing with chronic, widespread pain and fatigue that has gradually gotten to the point of being debilitating.

That said, I will probably not be writing an overwhelming number of posts on this blog for a long while, so to a large extent, it will be dependent on guest writers to keep running…as well as my own ability to review and post those pieces.

Thanks for all your kindness and support, minions! It means a lot!

  1. I love reading your posts. I’m so sorry to hear your news and that you have been in pain. You give so much, and you did it through pain and fatigue, thank you.

  2. Sorry to hear that you’re unwell.
Not to be presumptuous (so yeah basically I’m just going to go right ahead) but have you checked for Lymes? It’s something not a lot of doctors think to check for, because it’s fairly uncommon and it manifests differently for different people (i.e. not ‘classic’ lymes with flu-symptoms and a rash). I know a number of people (each with a different set of symptoms ranging from arthritis to muscle pain to headaches) who went un/miss diagnosed for months/years. Just my two-cents.
Hope you figure out what it is and feel better soon!

    • Yes, and at this point, I probably have already heard of and researched most of the diseases and deficiencies that any of my readers could suggest, but thanks for the thought.

  3. God bless you to feel better and heal from whatever is causing the pain and fatigue!

  4. I hope you’ll be free of your illness and pain soon. I’d like to help in any way I can. I’m yet to finish typing all the characters I’m supposed to due to a very hectic real life schedule, but I’ll try harder to finish them off soon so that I can help more. All the best.

  6. Somehow I really want to see those rude comments you keep getting, purely out of curiosity.

    • Well, I don’t delete them unless they’re absolutely horrible (because I don’t want to encourage that sort of thing). If you read through the comments you might find some of them…usually with sarcastic responses from myself.

  8. First, I would like to as tend the hope that you will be diagnosed and make a full recovery soon. Secondly, since I have read this blog for a while and have gotten many wonderful character ideas from it, I would like to help contribute as one of the guest posters for fictional characters. The only difficulty is that I am still unsure of how to provide enough evidence for the characters functions, especially for functions I myself do not posses such as Ni and Ti. Also, I am not clear on where guest posters place their character discussions and if their posts are reviewed before they are published. I wish to help in writing this blog since I enjoy it so much and you may not be able to write as much as you might want to. Hope that you feel better soon and make a full recovery. Thank you so much for creating this blog.

    • I would be glad of your help! And I will answer your questions in sequence:
      1. If you look at the “contribute” page on the menu bar, you’ll find instructions on how/where to contribute
      2. I’ve been meaning to write more about the functions, but have been…otherwise detained…so for now I would suggest looking at my discussions of the functions in my 16 Type Contrast and Function Discussion post series and (which you can find if you click the “Idiot’s Guide to MBTI”
      3. I review guest posts before I publish them (sometimes with a more clear head than other times).
And thank you for wanting to help!

      • Your welcome. I have looked at the page for characters that have been typed but need to be written about and have selected a couple to work on. I hope to have one of them ready soon.

  9. Sorry to hear that your health isn’t getting any better. Hopefully, at least one of the doctors will be able to find a diagnosis and a solution soon. In the mean time, don’t push yourself too hard.

And I’ll keep sending in submissions as always.

If all tests fail you might want to ask your Dr to consider Fibromyalgia.

  12. Arvid, I’m really, really sorry to hear that you’re doing so poorly–that’s sad news for all of us. I will definitely be thinking of you, and praying that you get better ASAP. I’ve really missed your internet presence over these past few weeks.

If you want more guest posts on character types, I’m certainly available to do more of those over the summer (although of course I can’t promise that I’ll get ’em right).

  13. I hope you will be better soon. I am inspired by your writing. Thank you for writing many articles that help me to understand MBTI and several fictional characters, also real figures.

  14. I sincerely hope your doctors are able to identify the root causes of your pain, and find a way to treat your pain! I’m sorry you are facing such bleak circumstances, and I wish you any relief of recovery possible.

  15. I’m sorry to hear that things don’t seem to be getting better for you. It’s always a challenge to keep all of one’s commitments balanced, and as far as this blog goes, you’ve been doing incredibly in light of your circumstances. Your content — both posts and comments included — is never lacking in quality and is always a pleasure to read!

I hope things do start improving for you, however that may look. Meanwhile…you’ve such a faithful following on this blog, I have no doubt that we the underlings will rise to the occasion and continue to cultivate the intelligent and engaging space you’ve begun here.
